1st Christmas Party of the Year

Published by hockeychic2003 at 11:48 am under Uncategorized Edit This

I attended my first Christmas party of the year that my old firm held. I was actually quite nervous before I got there and wasn’t completely sure how to dress. I ended up picking the right outfit which was a red top from Ann Taylor that I got for about $15, black slacks and my red shoes. Luckily it was warm enough in the ballroom at the hotel which it was being held so that my decision to shed the sweater coat that I was wearing was the right one. I first thought it might be odd to have shown up but it ended up being fine. I actually ended up talking to a lot of former clients who said that they missed me and that I should come back to working on rural housing issues or whatever issue I was working with them on. One of the guys didn’t actually know that I had left the firm and was somewhere else which was kind of funny. I swore we had sent emails back and forth about me leaving but oh well. Whatever. Perhaps they forgot.

I ended up talking to my most challenging clients for quite a bit there and it was nice to see that they listened to me and wanted my feedback. I walked away to get a drink but the Executive Director for the organization kind of went back to the point–you were saying,..something about our February Congressional meetings,…….and they had heard what I said from other people but I think it helped that they heard it from somewhere else. One of the groups who I had worked with their Executive Director was trying to get me to apply for a job somewhere else which I thought was the funniest thing in the world! Apparently he wasn’t kidding which I thought he was. He was quite funny. He ended up holding my plate when I was eating since I had a glass in my hand as well. It was quite different since he could be my father. I actually have a tiny little crush on him and he decided to shave and it was a much better look than before! I think I will continue to keep in touch with him in the near future. I have a place in my heart for them,…that set of clients in general.

I ended up returning the book my boss gave me which I didn’t actually end up finishing. I may actually just get it and finish reading it myself. However, it did take me a year and a half to get halfway through the book so perhaps I will finally get done with it by 2010? I also ended up getting him socks and a shirt from the organization I work with now. There is a joke behind the socks and it took him a second for it to click and he seemed sincerely touched. It is funny that just less than six months ago he and I had a conversation where he said I sucked and I my time at the firm may come to an unhappy ending for me which is very different than the reception that I got tonight! Ironic huh? You miss what you don’t have perhaps? Who knows? But again it is never a bad thing to keep on good terms with people and perhaps it was better that I left on my own terms!
