I have a fascination with marathons having done the Marine Corps Marathon and having picked up running a couple of years ago at 29. I volunteered again this year at the information booth since I deferred my entry until next year for a number of reasons among which is I got sick during the summer and that threw of my training and I had not been training as much as I needed to anyway during the week since I was busy looking for a new job. Yes I know excuses excuses. So I like volunteering at the expos to meet people and to talk to all the different people who are running and seeing their spouses and the people who are in town supporting them. It’s always fun.

Instead of working with the Marines during packet pick up like I did last year, I was working with a woman who works for the marathon full time in customer service I believe. She was extremely nice and now I understand why she would be hired for the position she is in. She really excelled at helping people answer their questions and explaining things very clearly and carefully. I sometimes did not have the patience–especially with people who wanted me to figure out where they were coming from and didn’t know where their hotel was.

On the way back to Dupont from the Stadium Armory I ended talking to a guy who was in from Austin Texas who was cute waiting for the metro. He started talking to some people and then I chatted with him briefly. He was cute and when he said he was a firefighter that was even hotter. He also served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine and he started doing the Marine Corps as a tribute to them and has done it for the past three years. He did ask me if I ran since I had an athletic running jacket on and I chatted with him briefly about having done it two years ago and how I still run and was signed up to run but transferred b/c my knee wasn’t feeling up to it. Apparently though he was doing this one cold to which my response was good luck to you! Don’t start off too fast! I am not sure whether I should have chatted with him more since he was actually going in my direction but he lived in Texas so what exactly was the point? I wished him luck after we got off the train and he was behind me as we switched trains. He I guess was meeting some friends in Dupont at a bar and I ended up meeting a friend and going to a bar and I suppose I have found out more but he couldn’t answer where he was staying without being weird so I just kind of dropped it. I asked where he was staying because it’s one of those simple questions you asked someone who was in from out of town and he looked at me kind of funny before he responded with a friend–it just made me think what kind of friend the way he answered. Anyway,..he was cute and that was that.  Now the question I am grappling with is do I actively track Z who is running tomorrow or do I not b/c I may seem like a stalker if I did since he never emailed me back.  I don’t know I hate boys.  I think they are stupid and I am done with this one in the we are now officially friends/acquaintances and there is no dating this one again.
