Out on the town
So on Saturday night after working my event I met up with a friend who is two years older than I and we went bar hopping across town in light of the fact that both of us had not been out in a really long time. I went over to her house and finally saw her apartment which I had not seen since she moved in. She lives in a cute apartment close to Adams Morgan although I didn’t have good luck finding it since I started going out in the wrong direction. We cabbed it from her house to U Street which is now apparently the new place to be. We started out at Marvin’s because she had just met a friend of a friend who was working tonight as a bartender. Luckily we did find her and the first round of drinks was on her. The bar was packed full of people some of whom were much younger than we were girls and guys alike. We were surrounded by men who were native Spanish speakers which my friend was impressed with since she is fluent in Spanish and is attracted to European men. We were on the patio and then meandered inside to where the DJ was playing. There were some cute guys who seemed a bit older but being the meat market scene there was a lot of checking each other out before a tall guy stopped me and apologized for starring at me. Of course in my head I wanted to say I didn’t think much of you starring at me but figured that would have sounded kind of obnoxious. He went on further to state that I looked like his ex-girlfriend and he was kind of shocked so that was why he was staring. We went on to chat for a while. Apparently he had lived in DC for a while then moved to Boston to go to law school and he was just back and working for Baker Botts and had sat for the bar exam in Virginia. We talked about the bar exam for a bit and he was trying to explain to me what the bar exam was and before he got too far I said I took the bar exam too. He had one of those oh sorry insert foot in mouth looks. We went to talk for a bit more about living in VA vs. DC and where good places to go out were and how the city changed when my friend finally went we’re going downstairs for a bit but we will be back. Of course we never came back. Part of me thinks perhaps I should have asked for info or given him my card so I would have options. But the other part of me is like I hate dating lawyers for the most part, especially ones who work for big law firms and who are the know it all annoying time. He was fine to talk to but I wasn’t moved. Yes,…I know that sounds snarky but if you’re not interesting within the first I don’t know 15 minutes of talking to you I don’t think I’m that interested which is probably why I am STILL SINGLE!!! I just have a short attention span in general and I hate the whole guys knows best mentality. I got the sneaking suspicion that he thought I was not so bright.
After we went to check out the scene downstairs we went back up to the patio and then left to go find some other place to hang out at. We walked down U street to Local 16 and then to Chi Cha Lounge. We didn’t go into Local 16 on principal because my friend’s cousin had been fired from that place because it underwent a change of management. And there was a huge line outside Chi Cha for some reason and so we didn’t want to go there. Somehow we ended up back at Napolean’s which is a champagne bar in Adams Morgan. It was a nice place but the crowd was eclectic. Two random guys came up to us and started talking to us which was fine for the short time but one guy ended up having a girlfriend and the other one ended up hooking up with someone else so I have no idea why they even came over. Of course they also looked like they were barely 21 which is a factor of just getting older I guess. There was a room downstairs where there was dancing but my friend didn’t want to dance so we left and stopped in another place before calling it a night. So much for our efforts to meet men which brings me back to my original assumption that when you go out trolling for men you really don’t meet any. My friend was a little more intent on finding men to talk to and I was just more about going out for a bit since I had not been out in ages just to go out! We parted ways shortly after 1am and both walked home. My walk home was uneventful minus the asshole who as they were at a red light said to me if I wanted to f**** since they were a car of three guys. I think I shook my head or something indicating no and he said too bad or something. That initially made me more alert to see who else was around and I saw a man walking his two dogs just to be sure if anything happened and I started screaming someone would hear me. Worse case scenario was the guys coming out of their car and trying to put me in it. But for the most part it’s just drunk guys being assholes. As a result, I decided to walk down a more light street instead of the one that I was thinking about and ended up speed walking home making sure that there were people around me at all times.
So much for a fun night on the town! It was still fun in some ways but part of me would have maybe enjoyed watching a DVD and going to bed a tad bit earlier! However, if you never try and see what happens you might regret it,…..!
